Trombonist Aidan, 18, will be one of two musicians from western NSW to appear at Schools Spectacular and it will be his third appearance at the big event.
“It’s an amazing experience and I am very honoured to have again been given this opportunity,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to playing a challenging but fun repertoire with a lot of talented musicians from around NSW.”
Aidan is no stranger to music, having been introduced to it as a young child, and has made a name for himself as a key member of the Bathurst High big band Swing Factor.
The strong musical pull also saw Aidan travel to Europe in 2016 as part of the West of the Divide concert tour that saw a western NSW music ensemble perform in Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest and Prague.
“Music has been a key part of my entire life, and it serves as a great opportunity to make friends,” he said.
“While there’s always the option to pursue music professionally, I continue to gain a lot of enjoyment from playing in local jazz bands and orchestras.”
Aidan will perform at the Schools Spectacular as part of the symphony orchestra, joining thousands of other young musicians from across the state.
“These remarkable young musicians agree that they grow so much from the experience,” Schools Spectacular creative director Sonja Sjolander said.
The symphony orchestra will be under the baton and guidance of experienced conductor Steve Williams, who has received international recognition for his work with student musicians.
“He’s an amazing conductor and I’m looking forward to working with him,” Aidan said.
The Schools Spectacular will be staged at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney between Friday, November 23 and Saturday, November 24.
