Those were the figures revealed by Bathurst Spring Spectacular organisers when they gathered in Machattie Park recently to hand over the money raised by the event this year.
The location was appropriate considering the Spring Spectacular showcases some of the most beautiful, creative and clever gardens in the city and surrounds.
Co-ordinator Heather Hanneman admitted she was surprised that the event managed to raise $1000 more than it did last year.
“We expected a great deal less because this year we had no buses,” she said. “We usually get four to five large coachloads from Sydney and country towns, but this year we did not have a single one.”
Ms Hanneman said she thought competition from other regional gardens, and garden events, was the reason the buses didn’t come this year.
The theme for this year’s Bathurst Spring Spectacular, held on October 27 and 28, was “enchanted gardens” and a fairy dell was tucked away in each of the gardens for visitors to find.
Musicians were in every garden on both days and Ms Hanneman said there were plans for more music during next year’s event.
From the $19,000 raised by the Bathurst Spring Spectacular, $1000 was donated to the 2BS Lions Christmas Miracle Appeal; $1000 to Miss Traill’s House; $2000 to the Mitchell Conservatorium of Music; $2000 to the Bathurst Community Transport Radiation Bus; $2000 to Headspace; $2000 to Lifeline; $3000 to the Peel Rural Fire Service (RFS); $3000 to the Freemantle RFS; and $3000 to the Meadow Flat RFS.
