On Friday night at AAMI Park, former Bathurst ’75 talent Grant set up the opening goal in Sydney’s dominant 3-0 win over Melbourne City, a result which kept the sky blues at the top of the league ladder.
It helped make amends for the narrow loss in the FFA Cup decider against Adelaide United 72 hours earlier.
“Tough week but we came away with the win, so happy days,” Grant said.
“Ninko [Milos Ninkovic] was unlucky not to get man of the match I’d say. Him, Brosquey [Alex Brosque] and Wilko [Alex Wilkinson] look after themselves and did well so we’re all thankful for that.”

Chasing a sixth consecutive win over City, Sydney began the round three match in impressive fashion.
At the 16 minute mark talented defender Grant pushed forward down the right to support his attackers and blasted a cross into the box. His team-mate Paulo Retre flicked the ball between the legs of City goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic to make it 1-0.
Grant also played a role in Sydney’s second goal and the first in Englishman Adam Le Fondre’s brace.
Both Grant and Retre had a nice interchange of passing before Le Fondre neatly chipped the ball over Galekovic in the 62nd minute.
In Tuesday night’s FFA Cup decider against Adelaide United, Sydney dominated for large periods but ultimately went down 2-1 at Hindmarsh Stadium.
A Craig Goodwin double proved the difference, though Grant did come close to finding the mark for his side. His 38th minute attempt, aimed at the top right corner of Adelaide’s net, required a sharp save from goalkeeper Paul Izzo.
Sydney FC’s next match is against the Newcastle Jets on November 10.
