It didn’t take long for the rain to claim its first victims of the Bathurst District Cricket Association first grade season as Bathurst City and Centennials Bulls couldn’t face off against one another on Saturday.
The cancellation was a double whammy for Bathurst City who also couldn’t complete their Royal Hotel Cup Twenty20 game on Friday night against CYMS when a downpour arrived.
The BDCA contest is done and dusted but the cup contest has been rescheduled for this Wednesday.
Time will tell whether the BDCA will alter the result from a draw, depending on whether appropriate action was taken the night before by home side Bulls to ensure the pitch was protected.
Redbacks had the same penalty applied against them last season for an identical situation.

Redbacks captain Joey Coughlan was part of the BDCA’s grounds staff and endured a disappointing tour around the city to assess pitch conditions.
“I was one of the ones going around inspecting the pitches and there was no chance of any balls being bowled on the Sportsground or on Morse Park 2.
“Loco Oval had a bit of a pond going. It was like Lake Loco. Brooke Moore was another one that was unfit for play
“It sucks for everyone because we want to be out there playing cricket but we have to consider player safety.”
Bathurst cricketers will be fearing a repeat of last season’s run towards Christmas.
The BDCA introduced a Twenty20 component to the 2017-18 season but the entirety of it was rained out.
“I hope it’s not one of those years where it rains every weekend,” Coughlan said.
“I think we’ll be 3-0 now. There’s a bit of a gap opening up already and it feels good to be on the top side of it.”
Redbacks will be pumping themselves up for a meeting with Rugby Union next Saturday in a game pitting the two remaining unbeaten teams together.
Bulls will continue chasing their first win of the season when they play Colts at Loco Oval.
