Blue Cocktatoo opened in George Street last Thursday, November 1, and is a lifestyle store that will initially focus on retail, selling clothing, jewellery, homewares and original art.
“Our focus is on trying to showcase a collection that’s a bit different from anything else in Bathurst,” owner Donna Mitchell said.
Ms Mitchell, who has spent the last 25 years in education as an arts teacher, is foraying into small business for the first time.
“It’s combining the things that I think i do well: my knowledge of art, design and shopping,” she said.
“We’re trying to add to the shopping experience in Bathurst, and hope to bring in people from all over the region.”
With the retail side serving as the initial stage of Blue Cockatoo, Ms Mitchell is hoping to incorporate her skills as an educator into the business.
“We’re hoping to set up an arts studio upstairs next year where we can have workshops,” she said.
“The aim is to create a little hub where people can come and buy beautiful things as well as learn new skills and engage art at a range of different levels.”
“There’s a bit of a buzz around George Street.”
