PET chickens belonging to the kids at Goodstart Kelso, have been stolen and everyone is guttered.
Monique Meekin, who works at the early childhood education centre, said both the staff and children were shocked and saddened when they went to check on the chickens on Friday morning, and found all four were missing.
There were two bantams, Hokey and Pokey, and two silkies, which were taken from the chicken coop, which was at the back of of a fully fenced play area at the centre.
Ms Meekin said she is disappointed someone could steal from children, and is hoping those responsible will return the chickens to their owners.
“The children have been left feeling absolutely devastated,” she said.
“These chickens are a part of our centre and the children’s daily routines. They are truly missed,” she added.
She’s hoping wither those responsible for taking them will bring them back or someone who knows anything or knows of anyone who now has new chickens, could contact the centre.
“Everyone is heartbroken,” she said.
Ms Meekin said the chickens were secured safely in their coop on Thursday as part of their normal routine. They were discovered missing Friday morning when staff and children went to put them out for the day.
“We just really want them back, they are our pets, the kids absolutely adore them,” she said.
“They collected food scraps for them every day, and every morning collected their eggs.”
“Any information on where they are would be greatly appreciated, all people have to do is call the centre on 6332 6155.”
