WHILE Our Uncle Sam did not quite do enough to win Saturday night’s Group 3 Kevin Robinson Free For All at Menangle, his final 100 metres still pleased driver Anthony Frisby.

First up in a quality field of runners looking to both take out the 2,300m feature and improve their Inter Dominion rankings, the Perthville driver was a little unsure how his gelding would fare.
From barrier six the son of Sportswriter settled one out and one back, with the Luke McCarthy driven favourite Cash N Flow ($2.40) setting the tempo.
Our Uncle Sam was fifth into the final bend, some four lengths off the pace, and Frisby had to peel four-wide.
Cash N Flow zipped away off the front, but in the final 100m Our Uncle Sam rapidly closed the gap.
He got within 2.3m of Cash N Flow, even though the victor clocked a 26.6 seconds final split and 1:56.4 mile rate.
“Just got a bit too far back and Luke got a nice couple of quarters, but he hit the line very nicely,” Frisby said.

The Lagoon’s Amanda Turnbull also contested the Group 3 feature and while placing sixth with Eye See Diamonds ($5), was happy how she found the line.
She had been second last down the back straight for the final time and ended up 11.2m off the pace.
“I was really happy with her. She went a bit rough early, but she hit the line really well over the longer distance which is not really her go,” Turnbull said.
