Wes Gibson finished second only to Canberra talent Josh Torley while Kellie Gibson was seventh in the women’s standings following the recent final round’s action at the Carcoar Cup.
There were strong results for Wes Gibson’s UP Coaching Bathurst collective. Miller Rivett, Sophie Macauley and Rose-Marie Van Raad all finished on the podium for their age groups.
“The series has evolved a bit this year with the addition of the half marathon and 10km options. That’s made it a bit more tactical,” Wes Gibson said.
“I was able to accrue podiums from every race except for Orange, where the overall quality of the field definitely improved.
“To have a guy like Josh around here racing is great for the area but it would be a bit naive of me to think I’m on his level.
“Kellie’s works quietly and lets her performances say a lot. She could have finished a lot higher but opted to run at Dubbo with my sons instead of by herself but she said that was her most enjoyable race.”
Gibson was champion of the men’s 30-39 category and his wife was runner-up in the women’s standings.
Rivett was second in the men’s under 20s battle behind Torley and was 10th overall. Macauley was third in women’s under 20s and Van Raad was winner of the women’s 50-59 years division.
“Miller set a goal to run every race this year and only missed Forbes. He performed really well in all five events he did,” Gibson said.
“His parents are very supportive and he’ll continue to improve. We talk about guys like Josh Torley, he’s on that sort of trajectory at the moment.
“Rose-Marie has only starting running in the last 12 months and for her to win her age group is fantastic.
“Sophie did really well considering she’s been playing Premier League Hockey as well this year.
“They’re a great group who always encourage each other. One of the highlights this year was seeing the ladies in the group hang back to cheer on everyone across the line.”
