Based on the Academy Award-winning 2001 film Shrek, the musical follows the titular green ogre on an epic quest to reclaim his swamp, bringing him in contact with many memorable characters along the way.
Directed by Bronwyn Colley, the production stars Cameron Russell as Shrek, Daniel Van Klooster as Donkey, Polly Taylor as Princess Fiona and Henry Summerton as Lord Farquaad.
In addition to the main cast is an ensemble of around 66 children from ages six to 17, some of whom will take to the stage for the very first time.
“There is an abundance of talented children in this show,” Ms Colley said.
“The cast has been full of energy, and have shown plenty of enthusiasm towards drama and performing.”
The Carillon Junior Theatrical Society began in 2014 as the junior offshoot of the Carillon Theatrical Society, and has become a key outlet to nurture young people with a keen interest in performing arts.
Shrek the Musical Jr. is the second production by the group this year, following the double feature performance of Long Tall Lester and The Affairs at Meddler’s Top at Carrington House back in June.

Ms Colley says that the story will resonate wonderfully with audiences.
“The key message of the story is that you can be different to other people, but in life we all have the same needs and desires and should be supportive of one another,” she said.
“This is a celebration of what friends can achieve together.”
The production has already received a positive reaction from various Bathurst schools, who were invited to two special showings on Thursday, November 15 and Friday, November 16.
Shrek the Musical Jr. will run for two shows on Saturday, November 17 at 11am and 3pm, as well as Sunday, November 18 at 1pm.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, $15 for concession and $12 for juniors, and are available from the BMEC box office.
