The Bathurst Child and Family Network’s (BCFN) School Starters Picnic aims to celebrate the big milestone of going to kindergarten.
BCFN chairperson Annette Meyers said the first picnic in 2018 received positive feedback.
“The families that came, they said it was a really wonderful thing for Bathurst,” she said. “They really enjoyed connecting with the schools and the children's services that were there.”
The event is one of several things BCFN does to make Bathurst more child-friendly and help children feel valued, particularly when they reach significant milestones.

"Transitions are really important things in all our lives and transition to school is a big step for children," Ms Meyers said.
Friday's picnic will start at 4.30pm and offer free games, activities and entertainment, including face painting, circus equipment and stories.
Bathurst Buslines will also bring a bus to the playground so children who may have to travel to school using the service can see inside.
People who would like to attend don’t need to register ahead of time to come.
"They just come along on the day and if they would like to come to the registration table, all the kids we've got starting school in 2019 [who register] will get a certificate and the first 100 to register will get a free book," Ms Meyers said.
