Challenge Bathurst, which gives car enthusiasts and professional drivers a chance to participate in hot laps around Mount Panorama, is now in its third third.
Currently, more than 400 cars have been confirmed this year’s event.
The Pennells have entered two cars, which are almost identical in look.
The design of the cars are based of Ferrari’s Radical model used by Formula One legend Michael Schumacher.
Stuart Pennells will drive the number 216 car, while David Pennells will be behind the wheel of the number 99, which wasn’t looking too good just over a week ago.
“The 99 won the 2015 Radical Australian Championship. We had to rebuild that one and it wasn’t looking good last Friday,” David Pennells said.
“One of us were working on it for six weeks, rebuilding it. It was constant work.
“Things are looking good now. It should be a great run on Thursday and Friday. Any chance to drive at Bathurst is a great one.”
Mr Pennells said he would be happy with a best time of around the two minutes and 20 second mark.
Both vehicles have a 1500cc Suzuki engine and a Hewland gearbox.
The seats are positioned low in the car, only 40 millimetres off the ground.
The car can hit top speeds of up to 250 kilometres and can reach speeds of nought to 100 kilometres per hour just 2.9 seconds.
The father and son duo will compete in the PMF Motor Sports team.
On Thursday and Friday, competing drivers will compete in the Pirelli Supersprint, while on Saturday and Sunday, competing drivers will compete in the Liqui-Moly Modern Regularity competition.
Driving starts nice and early on Thursday morning at 8am.
Mount Panorama will be closed to public traffic on 8am on Wednesday and is expected to reopen at approximately 6pm on Tuesday, November 20.
Arrangements for residents to proceed to their homes will be in place.
