Denison College Bathurst High Campus Year 10 student Alex Grace, along with Kelso High Campus Year 12 student Kathleen Murphy will be among 72 western NSW musicians touring Europe as part of the West of the Divide ensemble.
“It gives us the opportunity to travel and take advantage of this unique experience,” Kathleen said.
“I wouldn’t be able to do this if it wasn’t for the West of the Divide program,” Alex added.
The West of the Divide tour will feature both a band and a vocal ensemble, and will play at a host of remarkable European venues such as St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City.
Other stops on the tour include Florence, Venice, Bled and Zagreb.
The tour also serves as a valuable experience for teachers, and Kelso High’s deputy principal Wendy Murphy will be working with the vocal ensemble while in Europe.
“We’ve got a two day rehearsal before we head off, and then it’s all steam ahead,” Ms Murphy said.
”This is a really valuable initiative for rural students.”
This will be the second West of the Divide tour for Ms Murphy, Alex and Kathleen.
