Parallel parking on the block will be removed in the coming months, with all spots converting to 45 degree angle rear to curb parking.
For Shona Barnden, who works in the Howick Street area, this change can’t come soon enough.
She’s witnessed many motorists who have been parked in correctly, especially out the front LiveBetter, where parallel parking and 45 degree parking converge.
She’s written with chalk on the curb and signs have been put up to remind motorists of the unusual parking area.
“If one is not reading their surrounds it could cost,” Ms Barnden said.
“Drivers just tend to park the same way people near them are doing it.
“In an attempt to alert those not looking up, the chalk text was placed on the gutter.
Ms Barnden wanted either the sign made clearer, parking lines repainted to make it even clearer for motorists or have the parallel parking removed.
“It may help to save someone's Christmas money going to hundreds of dollars in parking fines,” she said.
“This is a significant, costly problem for people who need to access Paul Toole’s office, Verto, LiveBetter or GoodYear in this small space at Howick Street.”
Bathurst councillor Warren Aubin did confirm that the block between Rankin and George Street would be eventually converted to 45 degree parking but there is no current completion date.
Buffers will also be installed to address the steep slope for parking.

“It’ll go through the next council general meeting to be ticked off and then it’ll be on the works program to be done,” Cr Aubin said.
“If it can be done by the end of the year, I don’t know but I hope it would be.
“It was something that came through and thought was a great idea.
“There was actually issues about the steepness of the road gutter. People were getting stuck on it.
“What we’ll be doing is putting stoppers in so you back in and it’ll be something like a buffer.”
