A BLAZE which left a Bathurst home with extensive damage is now under investigation by officers from the Chifley Police District.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to a home in Browning Street at 2.26am on Tuesday following reports that a home that was well alight.
Station Officer Chris Sanders said firefighters had to put on their breathing equipment so they could enter the house to fight the blaze and also search for anyone inside.
“It appeared that it’s been broken into and there were a number of small fires set throughout the house,” he said.
“There was extensive smoke damage throughout the house.”

Many areas in the house were also damaged by fire, including the carpets and doors.
“We had it under control within about five minutes of gaining entry,” Station Officer Sanders said.
While the house was occupied, Station Officer Sanders said the owners were not at the property at the time the blaze was lit.
“From what the neighbours had said they’d only just moved in,” he said.
Station Officer Sanders said once the fire was extinguished the scene was handed over to police officers.
A Chifley Police District officer remained on scene at 7.30am on Tuesday.
