Mr Conaghan was a dedicated firefighter, corrections officers, partner to Jasmine Hadson and very proud father of 18-month-old twins Joshua and Amelia when he suddenly died in his sleep in April.
He was just 30 years old.
Fire and Rescue NSW Kelso Station captain Scott Wilson had worked as a firefighter alongside Mr Conaghan for a couple of years and said Nathan’s death had left he and his colleagues shocked.
“He was only 30 and was fighting fit so it was big shock,” he said.
Mr Wilson said while the community had since rallied to support Mr Conaghan’s young family, his “firefighting family” wanted to do a little extra.
“We’ve organised a golf day and the whole community is invited,” he said of the Kelso Station firefighters.

The nine-hole four-person ambrose will be held this Sunday at Bathurst Golf Club with tee-off at 3pm, followed by raffles.
“It’s $50 a head and that gets you a barbecue lunch and it covers green fees and whatever’s left will go into the kitty,” Mr Wilson said.
That kitty is a trust fund for the now two-year-old twins Joshua and Amelia.
“All the funds raised will go into a trust fund that was set up by Nathan’s father Michael,” Mr Wilson said.
“His mates at the fire station thought of him as family and we just wanted to do our bit to provide for them [the twins] as he would have done himself.”
Sunday’s fundraiser will kick-off at 1.30pm with a barbecue lunch, golf from 3pm and raffles expected to run from 6-7pm.
Anyone interested member of the community is invited to play golf, attend the raffles, or both and no handicap is needed.
“Just turn up on the day to play and pay your money at the [Bathurst Golf Club] pro shop,” Mr Wilson said.
Mr Wilson has praised the Bathurst businesses and community members who made donations of prizes and items for the auction.
