Subtitles, which has been two years in the making, blends the duo’s beautiful harmonies with a vibrant appreciation for 80s rock.
Momentum features Lauren Hagney on vocals and Dave Webb on vocals/guitar, and the pair met during the Carillon Theatrical Society’s production of Rock of Ages in 2016.
After spending the last two years gigging relentlessly throughout the Central West and beyond, Subtitles is the result of the pair’s sheer determination to express themselves on record.
Subtitles is an engaging release that is full of catchy songs reflecting the pair’s superb musicianship.
‘You Better Run’ starts the album in a majestic fashion, with Mr Webb’s opening guitar riff evoking an immense Iron Maiden feel, and the trade-off vocals between Mr Webb and Ms Hagney effectively building hype for the album ahead.
‘Become the Reason’ explores Momentum’s lighter, more pop-orientated elements, and has Ms Hagney delivering a gorgeous vocal melody with plenty of heart.
‘Let the Music Keep Playin’,’ the first single released from the album, opens with a subtle nod to their experiences with gigging, with the song celebrating the power of music.
Other songs that stand out as highlights include the break-up anthem ‘Ex Marks the Spot,’ the keyboard warrior-attacking ‘Say it to My Face,’ and the stunningly beautiful ballad ‘Do You Remember.’
Subtitles more than proves that Mr Webb and Ms Hagney were meant to make music together, and the professionalism they both display throughout this album is nothing short of spectacular.
Momentum officially launched Subtitles on November 15 at a special event at Bathurst’s Two Heads Brewing, in what was a sell-out performance.
The duo will be hosting another launch event for the album tonight at the Lithgow Tin Shed, which has also already sold out.
Momentum has come a very long way with their music, and if Subtitles is anything to go by, there are grand times ahead for the duo.
