Operation Western Chrome ran from Friday to Saturday across the Western Region, including the Chifley Police District, targeting dangerous driver behaviour.
A total of 2460 breath tests were conducted by officers with 49 drivers charged with drink driving offences.
Officers detected another 89 drivers travelling in excess of the speed limit, and issued a further 242 infringement notices for a variety of other offences.
Roadside Drug Testing was also conducted during the operation with 22 drivers tested and returning a positive result.
Western Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Geoff McKechnie, said the operation was aimed at reducing dangerous driving in the region.
“We had more than 160 personnel and 88 vehicles deployed during the three-day operation across the region during this high-visibility pro-active operation,” Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said.

“Sadly, despite our warnings police still detected 49 drivers who were prepared to place their own wellbeing and the lives of others in danger by drinking and driving.
“Another 89 drivers were detected speeding over the weekend, which endangers the lives of other innocent road users.
“Police will continue to target dangerous road users across the Western Region as we approach the Christmas holidays, in an effort to reduce road trauma.”
