The region looks on track to receive its predicted 50mm of rain today, a godsend for drought-affected farmers but a challenge for motorists who have been warned to take it easy on the roads.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the first rain started falling about 2.30am and by 8.30am there was 25.4mm in the gauge at the official weather station at Bathurst Airport.
Rain is predicted to continue throughout most of the day, with the bureau forecasting no let-up until around 8pm.
Meanwhile, a sheep graziers’ warning remains in place across the Central Tablelands.
The warning, posted on the bureau’s website, says areas likely to be affected include the Tablelands, Illawarra and Southern Tablelands forecast districts and parts of the Hunter, South Coast, Snowy Mountains and ACT.
“Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers and strong southerly winds are expected during Wednesday,” the warning states.
