The race, organised by the Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club through Women for Tri, will take place on Sunday and will feature a 200 metre swim, a 16 kilometre bike ride and a two and a half kilometre run.
This women’s only triathlon is the first of its kind in Bathurst and is set to be an awesome opportunity for all women to have a go in the sport.
Women for Tri is a program launched by Ironman and Life Time Fitness in 2015, and works to increase female participation in triathlon at all levels.
The program aims to encourage and engage female athletes across all race distances and represents all athletic abilities.
Richard Blackie, president of the Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club, is very much looking forward to the event and loves the sport.
“Triathlon is such a good sport for a couple of reasons. First off it is great for fitness. You are training and competing in three different sports meaning its different from other sports which makes it an interesting sport to participate in,” Blackie said.
“It is also a very friendly environment. Everyone is very supportive of each other and there is a real good sense of camaraderie between all the athletes.”
This event is truly for all women to have a go in. It is aimed to have all skill levels compete, either for the win, for personal goals, or even to just have some fun. Women can also compete either individually or as a team.
Whilst the running, swimming and cycling will be done by all women, this is by no means a female only event.

The Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club says it is a day out for everyone to enjoy. Everyone, including partners and children can come down and support all competitors and cheer them on as they chase their goals and possibly the victory in the event.
Luke Patterson from the Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club is really looking forward to the event.
“We are over the moon about the event. There has been a really good response and fantastic engagement towards the event,” Patterson said.
“Judging from our Facebook group alone, we are expecting upwards of 100 people competing in the event, not just people from Bathurst but people coming from Orange as well.”
Aside from the event, the Women for Tri triathlon will be fundraising for a worthwhile cause. The triathlon will be supporting the Bathurst Women and Children’s Refuge.
The Women and Children’s Refuge support and provide shelter for those affected by domestic violence. The Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club is asking everyone to please dig deep and support this cause while you enjoy the triathlon.
The Women for Tri event is free for everyone to participate in and will be a fantastic activity to come down and see.
“We would love as many people down there as possible. It is for everyone regardless if it is your first triathlon or if you have been to many before,” Blackie said.
The Women for Tri event will start at 9am with registration starting from 7:30 and race briefing at 8:30.
