The duo, which features Abby Smith on piano/vocals and Sophie Jones on guitar/vocals, will be making their fourth appearance at the festival.
In a change from their previous appearances at the festival, this year marks the first time that the duo will perform with a full band.
The band, featuring Matt Ferry on guitar, Lian Wong on bass and Michael Carpenter on drums, will perform a set of mostly brand new material from the duo’s upcoming second album.
“The songs are really different now, and our songwriting style has certainly expanded,” Ms Smith said.
“With the full band, there’s going to be a noticeable difference in our sound.”
The Inland Sea of Sound has come a long way from its humble beginnings as smaller pop-up events in people’s backyards, and Ms Smith and Ms Jones have been there every step of the way.
“I volunteered during the first few years of the festival, and its one of our favourite festivals to do,” Ms Jones said.
It has been a very eventful year for Smith & Jones, a year that has seen them continue to build on their outstanding penchant for live performance.
Along the way, they have managed to successfully tackle many challenges that notable performing artists often face.
“We spent the first half of the year gigging heaps, and Abby started writing new songs that we slowly began to incorporate into our live sets,” Ms Jones said.
“Its been a creative but challenging year.”
The duo recently finished recording their second album with producer Michael Carpenter, and the new material has seen the pair expand the possibilities of their sound.
“It’s about expanding on what we’ve done before and wanting to challenge ourselves further,” Ms Smith said.
The new album is expected sometime next year, and those at the festival this weekend are in for a superb taste of what’s to come.
Smith & Jones will be performing on the Inland Sea of Sound’s main stage from 5.15pm tomorrow.
