DEVRO has begun consulting with employees at its Kelso site on a restructure that may lead to as many as 10 redundancies over the next six months.

The company, which makes collagen casings for sausage and other meat products, said on Thursday that it was reorganising its business across the world.
It follows a restructure in mid-2017 that led to eight redundancies at the Kelso site, which employs 215 people.
In a statement, Devro said it had informed employees that the company “proposes to streamline its operating cost base in order to make it more efficient for the coming years and free up funds to invest in growth areas”.
“We are reorganising our business globally and simplifying the way we work,” a Devro spokesperson said.
“This will mean letting go of a small proportion of Devro employees across all sites.”

The spokesperson said the new structure would allow the company to “re-prioritise resource allocation and reinvest in the business”.
“We have commenced the consultation process with our employees,” the spokesperson said.
“We may have as many as 10 redundancies over the next six months at the Bathurst [Kelso] site.”
Devro, which has been a major employer in Bathurst since 1979, has manufacturing sites in the United Kingdom, the United States, Czech Republic, China and Kelso.
The Kelso plant supplies the Australasian market, with more than 50 per cent of its production being exported.
