Through the annual Bathurst Community Christmas Lunch, Mr Rumble ensures everyone has access to a yummy and affordable meal on Christmas Day, where they can also be surrounded by friendly faces.
“I use volunteers and my family and all sorts of things to do it and Bathurst has over the years donated goodies, and that’s what we need again this year,” Mr Rumble said.
People are invited to donate a range of items, including soft drinks, snacks, Christmas crackers and Santa gifts, that can be used to enrich the lunch experience for guests.
Any non-perishable items donated that aren’t used are always stored away carefully, to be used in the following year.
In addition to food, decorations and gifts, Mr Rumble has also made an appeal for volunteers to help on Christmas Day.
“I’ve got a basic few who’ve come over the years, but I need a few more to help,” he said.
Those who would like to make a donation are asked to call Mr Rumble on 0409 785 990, while people who want to volunteer can register at The Neighbourhood Centre on 6332 4866.
The lunch will be held at the Hope Church, at 220 Gilmour Street, with people asked to arrive at 12pm for a 12.30pm start.
Mr Rumble said anyone in the community, including adults and children, who would like to join in the Christmas lunch is welcome to come along.
“As long as they are there on the day, we don’t ask questions,” he said.
“Then they just sit down, have a few [non-alcoholic] drinks, mingle and mix, and we serve them lunch and dessert, and Santa turns up.”
To assist people in attending, free transport will be provided to the church for those who need it.
Anyone who will require the service can register by calling the Neighbourhood Centre.
