The NSW Government yesterday announced a new batch of funding to install new fitness equipment and water stations at select spots along Bathurst’s Macquarie River.

The funding, worth $100,000, will see new fitness and water facilities introduced at Lions Berry Park and Cousens Park.
State Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the location of the new fitness equipment and water stations would entice those making use of the river’s walking paths and cycleways.
“When you have a look at this park around the Macquarie River, it is a very popular attraction,” Mr Toole said.
“Not only do we see sporting teams down here training, but we see people walking their dogs and going out for a stroll with their families.”
The funding for the new facilities has come from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, which supports projects that members of the community want to see happening in their local area.
Mr Toole said the new project is a fine example of the NSW Government’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and well-being.
“We want people to be out there having an active and healthy lifestyle, and this injection of $100,000 is going to further encourage that to happen,” he said.
“We’re seeing that with parkrun for example, there’s more and more numbers getting involved and its very popular among both locals and visitors.”
Bathurst mayor Graeme Hanger has welcomed the new announcement, which will support the Bathurst Regional Council in helping enhance the river’s parkland.
“This park is well used by the community, and I’d like to thank the state government for the $100,000,” Mr Hanger said.
“It’ll be well promoted and we’re looking forward to people coming down and using the equipment.”
The new equipment will be suitable for people of all ages, and the enhanced water facilities will provide more options for walkers and their pets in the warmer months.
“It’s going to be something pretty exciting,” Mr Toole said.
The new facilities are expected to be up and running by early next year.
