Parts of Durham and William Street remain closed while emergency services are on the scene of the gas leak.
Motorists have been asked to take alternate routes, avoiding the area.

An alert has been published on the Live Traffic website.
Durham Street and William Street are still closed, with motorists advised to exercise caution and stay away from the area.
UPDATE – Thursday, 9.15pm
Crews are still on scene attending to the gas leak at the United petrol station.
The Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said emergency service personnel had evacuated buildings as far back as 800 metres and were still “very much in the middle” of the incident.
Bathurst Ambulance Station has also been evacuated.

EARLIER (Thursday, 8.30pm)
EMERGENCY service personnel are on the scene of a gas leak at Bathurst’s United petrol station.
The retailer, on the corner of Durham at William Streets, has been evacuated while firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW investigate the scene.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue said that police and ambulances were also on the scene.
The roads in the immediate area have been closed and nearby buildings are also in the process of being evacuated.
People are advised to avoid the area for their own safety.
