Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee was in the central city park on Friday to announce that council would receive a $5000 grant under the Stronger Communities Program.
It will be matched with $5000 from council to replace three or four of the picnic tables, according to council’s recreation manager Mark Kimbel.

Mr Gee said it was a small project that would make a big difference.
“Delivering upgraded community facilities like the picnic tables in Machattie Park is just as important as building large infrastructure projects,” he said.
“These facilities are a great meeting place for the community and bring people together.”
Mr Kimbel said the aim was to have the new picnic tables in place by about February.
He said the tables will be going in to the park’s William and Keppel street precinct.
