Stephen enjoys the short-format matches and had been looking forward to squaring off with Centennials Bulls in the last round before the mid-season break.
Though the more than 30 millimetres of rain which fell earlier in the week prevented any first grade action, the Rugby Union versus Bathurst City game washed-out too, Stephen still knew hard work had gone into the game for City Colts.
It is the behind the scenes sort of hard work selecting teams and organising players – not just for firsts but across the grades – that clubs can not function without.
“Everyone has a lot of stuff on this time of year and people are away, you really struggle to get teams in all grades,” he said.

“If we didn’t have blokes like Brad Molenkamp and Pat [Hill] and Dave Smith, who pick the teams and do the ring arounds and send messages – it’s an absolute nightmare – it wouldn’t work.
“When the two-dayers are going on the twos and you’ve got Twenty20 in the ones and it’s not one game there, it’s two, and you can only have your three swaps for second grade, it’s a nightmare for them to organise that.
“Those guys, Bob Clancy and Daniel [Casey] as well, they’re the backbone of the club. Everyone has got them, but no-one sees them and they need to be recognised for what they do. To me, Pat is just as much a captain as I am and Bob, he loves it.”
