Held at Bathurst Panthers, Sellers won courtesy of an unanimous points decision, after neither boxer was unable to get the win in the bout’s three rounds.
Sellers said his height proved a vital asset in his win against Mooney.
“I started out the fight pretty well,” he said.
“I had a bit of height on him, so I was able to use a bit of range to box him.
“I just used that strategy throughout the fight and I felt I won the first round pretty comfortably.
“I had him a bit hurt and if I had a few more fights, I might’ve been able to stop him. I was just happy to box and win on points.”
Sellers said Mooney proved to be a tricky boxer, a fighter he knew very little about.
“My opposition went well. He’s an Irish guy, so I didn’t know much about him,” he said.
“It was a pretty tough opposition and he had a couple of good shots on me.”
Sellers also said it was exciting to get back in the ring, having not fought for over two years.
“It was good to get back in the ring and get that win. It was exciting and it was great to get that adrenaline rush from it,” he said.
“It was also great to see so many people out there, supporting the event.”

Having grown up in Oberon, Sellers has recently moved from his home town to live on the coast.
Having played rugby league for Group 10 premier league’s Oberon Tigers for the past few seasons, Sellers intentions are now solely focused on boxing.
“Before I was just juggling boxing and footy, but now I’m going to give footy up and focus solely on the fighting,” he said.
“I’ll have a few more fights earlier next year and hopefully next year I’ll turn pro.”
