Snakebite Boxing’s Kate Fallon won her female 60 kilograms inter-state title bout against Queensland’s Pru Coulstock, while Clayton Chatfield had an eye-catching performance in his win against Keenan Bozkoz.
Snakebite Boxing coach Jamie Fallon praised his daughter’s performance, with her boxing record remaining unblemished at 6-0.
“Kate was expecting her opponent to be good but not as good as she ended up being,” he said.
“The other guy was flown in from Queensland, down from the Sunshine Coast. She gave Kate a hard fight, with the fight going to the last round. Kate eventually won after an unanimous decision after four rounds of one and half minutes each.”
The main fight was between two locals – Scott Wilkinson and Mitchell Stevens – and after Wilkinson won the opening round, Stevens bounced back to win the bout.
Clayton Chatfield, who won silver in the 54 kilograms schoolboys division at the Australian Amateur Boxing League titles earlier this month, proved too good against Keenan Bozkoz.
He won each round against his opposition convincingly, according to Fallon.
“That was a tough fight, against the guy from Sydney. Clayton nearly stopped the kid in the second round, but his opposition just survived,” Fallon said.
“Clayton’s fight was a stand out. He's been training hard, so it was good for him to get the win.”
Elsewhere, Tyson Keogh put in a brave performance in his fight with Reg Herbert, however, the Bathurst junior was up against a more experienced boxer and got beat in the last round.
Snakebite Boxing’s 14-year-old junior Cooper Hodgson was also in the ring, up against Will Richards, from Nyngan.
“He won every round convincingly and improved so much in his fight,” Fallon said.
Billie Sharp was another Bathurst boxer that was in the ring, but she went down to Queensland fighter Callie Ryan.
“She just got stopped in the second round,” Fallon explained.
“Billie couldn't get a match in NSW, so we had to fly a girl in from Queensland. Callie had some kick-boxing fights before and she just pressured Billie a bit too much. Unfortunately it was a bad night for Billie.”
Fallon also expressed his delight at the crowd that attended the Christmas Party Fight Night, saying that all tables were sold out.
“It was great to see the Bathurst community come out to Panthers and support what was a fantastic night of boxing,” he said.
