The Central Northern star ripped through the classy Western top order and then he returned to claim his fifth wicket as the Corey McDean-captained side posted just 109.

Bathurst’s Tanvir Singh struck twice early as Western chased an unlikely win but it wasn’t to be, as Central Northern sealed a relatively comfort baler five-wicket win in the 30^th over.

Gwynne was the star of the show, destroying a Western top order which many were expecting to lead the Zone to a title triumph at Narrabri.

Western were reduced to 4-13 at one stage with leading batsmen Nic Broes (1), Brock Larance (0), Henry Railz (3), and McDean (4) all back in the sheds.

It marked a shock return to country cricket for Larance and Railz after the pair spent the past two weeks playing at the Cricket Australia Under 19 National Championships at Adelaide.

Gwynne returned and claimed his fifth, knocking over Cody Lawson on his way to finish with the eye-catching figures of 5-24 from seven overs.

Singh took two wickets early in the chase and CYMS star Larance also claimed 2-27 with his spin but the total was nowhere near enough as Adam McGuirk (36) led the chase.

Western will be out to bounce back against ACT Southern District on Tuesday.
