Bathurst musician Tameka Kennedy has been awarded a prestigious scholarship that will see her attend an intensive two-week music workshop in Tamworth on January 5.

The inaugural Travis Collins scholarship has been awarded to Ms Kennedy for her unique country/pop sound, highlighting her outstanding voice and superb guitar skills.
Ms Kennedy will be one of 27 students comprising the 2019 senior cohort at The Country Music Association of Australia’s Academy of Country Music [The Academy], Australia’s premier programme for emerging country musicians.
“I'm looking forward to making a lot of new friends and I’m hoping to learn a lot from them," she said.
“I’m very excited for the upcoming workshop.”
Ms Kennedy has built an impressive resume over the last couple of years as one of Bathurst’s emerging musical stars.
In addition to her tutelage at The Academy, Ms Kennedy will be performing at the 2019 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
This will be her second appearance at the event.
“I performed at this year’s festival after finishing runner-up in the ‘fRETfEST’ songwriting competition,” Ms Kennedy said.
“They gave me a guitar and sent me to Tamworth for some gigs.”
Having sung ever since she could talk, Ms Kennedy currently attends at the Bathurst Academy of Music under the tutelage of country music star Mickey Pye.
She is also a member of local act Cheviot Drive [with Ash Sproule], who is gearing up to release their debut single ‘Hands In’ early in the new year.
