Furious Not Fast ($1.55) successfully chased down Elvis In Motion ($7.50) to take out the Season Greetings Maiden (307 metres) at Kennerson Park in her first start at the Bathurst track.
Ballantine’s bitch got away fairly at the start from box four but inside starter Elvis In Motion was the strongest away.
It was bound to be a race of two as the leading pair opened up a four length lead over the rest of the field approaching the turn.
Furious Not Fast went along the outside of the leader through the turn for home but couldn’t quite find her way around, leaving her trainer fearful she was going to repeat her past efforts.
The entry into the home straight was the moment Furious Not Fast had been waiting for.
With fresh air ahead of her the Shakey Jakey bitch flew home in a time of 17.95 seconds.
Trammel ($6) won the battle for third.
“She’s been one of the hardest dogs to educate. We’ve put a lot of work into getting her to where she’s at today,” Ballantine said.
“She’s always loved racing other dogs. It’s not so much the lure, it’s chasing another dog. We were lucky another dog got out ahead and gave her something to chase.
“It’s the first time she’s gone past another dog in five months. Every trial or race it’s always been second or behind.”
