Jenna Gallagher and Cadel Lovett were both named the junior girl and junior boy road club rider of the year respectively.

Lovett also picked up another award, being named the junior boy track rider of the year alongside Ebony Robinson, who was named junior girl track rider of the year. 

Mother of Jenna, Toiresa Gallagher, said the award for her daughter was a great tribute for the hard work the seven-year-old had put in throughout 2018 calendar year. 

“It was good for her because she puts a lot into her club racing,” she said.

“For her to be recognised for consistently turning up and doing well is great. It can be a test for any kid during the winter to keep turning up and doing sport.

“She’s had a great year with her cycling, so it’s a good award for her to end it off with.

“She won the state championship and she was really excited about that, considering it was her first time racing at that.

“Jenna is just keen to have a good 2019.” 

Gallagher said her daughter enjoys her cycling, even during the warmer months as well.

“She’s got her state titles at the beginning of February up at Dubbo, so it’s kind of no rest for her,” she said.

“We just get up early [to avoid the heat] and get the training done. 

Lovett was the only cyclist to pick up a junior award in both the road and track category.

Gallagher noted that Lovett’s consistent year has rewarded him with more than just titles from the Bathurst Cycling Club. 

“He’s always there racing and it’s paid off for him now becoming a member of the Western Region Academy of Sport,” he said.

“Ebony got the award for the junior girl track junior and she’s another all-rounder performer. 

“The award is kind of like that, rewarding those who turn up and put in good, consistent performances.”
