The school’s P&C will receive a grant of $37,205 to fund a new grassed playing surface along with rainwater tanks to keep the oval watered.
The money has been made available through the state government’s Community Building Partnership (CBP) program.
“The first priority is to get the tanks installed and the school’s bore working again before the turf can go in,” Mr Toole said.
“I know the sports oval is used every day and that everyone at the school can’t wait to see the work carried out.
“There’s nothing like playing on a nice, grassy surface that is flat and even and I am looking forward to getting back out to O’Connell once the project is completed.”
The Community Building Partnership program has funded some 13,800 community projects since it commenced nearly a decade ago. Go to www.nsw.gov.au/cbp for more information.
