Elenara recovered after a slow start out of the blocks to claim the Angullong Maiden Plate in the second race of the day ahead of Highly Influential and debutant Bush Rambler, who had a photo finish with Electrified for third.
Pre-match favourite Elenara ($1.50) was a long way off the pace set by Michael Plummer’s Matchfox and Electrified, who led for the early part of the race after bolting out of the blocks, but found the outside and stormed down the straight win over the 1000 metre plate.
It was the filly’s first win for Baker in its three races back from a spell, running a second and a seventh since 18 weeks off.
In the first race, Wayne Hudd-trained Gundy stormed from the outside on the final stretch to take out the first race at Towac Park on Sunday ahead of Baker’s Terra Reign and Dynamite Dan.
Gundy stuck to the middle of the pack for most of the race before exploding with a run along the outside in the final 200 metres of the race.
Dynamite Dan did all the moving at the front of the group early, in a tussle with Terra Reign, but Mark Milton’s six-year-old bay couldn’t maintain the position. Terra Reign has had two firsts, a fourth and a third in its five races since coming back from a 37-week spell.
Baker’s two other chances at the meeting, Sono Dolce and Star Of O’Reilly, came up just short of picking up a placing.
