Trained by Mandurama’s Stephen Cleary, Even Profit’s ($6.80) excellent start helped her claim victory on debut ahead of Zipping Raw ($6.70) and Trammel ($8.80).
The three insider runners were among the early dice for control.
Trammel got away well from box one but Even Profit was up to the task on the outside.
Box three starter Milkshake Duck joined the pair to put an early two length break back to the rest of the field, being headed by Darryl Prestwidge’s runners Zipping Raw and Zipping Romeo.
On the turn Milkshake Duck drifted towards the outside wall and Trammel struggled to keep pace with Even Profit.
Zipping Raw found a path down the inside of Trammel but had three lengths still to make up when the closing straight arrived.
There was no chance of bringing back the leader as Even Profit won by just short of three lengths in a time of 17.88 seconds.
That time was vastly improved on her 18.41 trial performance in early December but Clearly wasn’t surprised to see that level of improvement.
“She wasn’t at her peak at the trials, which were a month ago, so I just made sure she was 100 per cent for today and she was,” he said.
“She was just about to ready to race before she tore a pin muscle and that put her back about five to six weeks. Since she’s been back in work she’s done everything right.”
