IT looked like Bathurst’s community New Year’s Eve celebrations would be brought to an early end on Monday night, but the weather held off long enough for people to celebrate.

A thunderstorm warning was issued at 5pm, but Bathurst Regional Council said the event would only be cancelled if there was heavy rain, hail or lightning.
With the bad weather generally staying away, patrons were able to enjoy the event’s affordable activities, food and a 9pm fireworks display.
Mayor Graeme Hanger estimated that a crowd into the thousands would form ahead of the fireworks.
There was a great splash of colour across the sky as the display brought Party in the Park to a close.
