Unfortunately for The Lagoon trainer Amanda Turnbull her colt Shoobee Doo finished at the tail of that bunch in Saturday’s Group 2 Menangle event.
Shane and Lauren Tritton’s Muscle Factory ($1.55) was simply too good as he led from start to finish in the $50,000 race, while six metres away Lochinvar Art ($3.30) pipped Shoobee Doo ($7.50) for second what looked at first like a dead heat.
It was a record shattering performance for Muscle Factory who became the first Australasian three-year-old colt or gelding to break the 1:50 mile rate, coming home in 1:49.6 to better Vincent’s previous mark by over half a second.
The last half was a scorching 53.1.
The place runs were still impressive – especially that of Lochinvar Art who made a mid race move from the rear of the field – with times that would have rivalled Vincent’s mark.

Turnbull’s brother Nathan enjoyed a win at the meeting with Power Of Red, who dropped down in class from his tough Shirley Turnbull Memorial run to take out the TAB.com.au Pace.
Meanwhile Eglinton’s Nathan Hurst was third in the Temora Shire Council Heat 2 with his gelding Tulhurst Santanna.
