Many of the nine games had extended lunch breaks as the rain came down, with seven games still unconfirmed as the Central Western Daily went to print.
Illawarra’s total of 158 was too far ahead of Penrith as the latter could only manage 74 in reply.
Kias Thompson and Bailey Abela took three wickets apiece for Illawarra as only two Penrith batters could reach double figures, with James Lennox and Harveer Dhaliwal made 12 and 10 respectively.
However, Illawarra only had three bats pass that mark, but turned those starts into decent scores, with Gus Campbell, Nic Nicastri and Thompson hitting 38, 37 and 25 each to drive their total past 158, with help from the Penrith bowlers who added 42 extras.
Blake Hodges took four wickets for Penrith, while Lennox picked up three.
The only other game finished was one featuring the hosts as South Eastern proved too strong for Orange in their opening game at Jack Brabham Park, running out seven wicket winners and taking only 13.4 overs to chase down their target of 83.
Jordan Segal and Dylan Melvey combined for over half of South Eastern’s final score of 3-87, with the former hitting 24 off 18 deliveries and the latter 25 off 23.
Darcy Kelly was the pick of the Orange bowlers, taking 2-8 off three overs.
Jamie Pavey and Oliver Patterson set up South Eastern’s win with the ball in hand, taking three wickets apiece, while Melvey chipped in with two wickets as only three Orange batters – Tom Middleton (18), Ollie Brincat (14) and wicketkeeper Dan Ritchie (11) could reach double-digits.
ACT Blue were in a commanding position over North West Sydney Maroon after hitting 8-276 from 50 overs, with half-centuries to Sineth Herath, Raakin Rahman and Oliver Withers, who top-scored with 56.
Meanwhile Dubbo were looking shaky as Inner West Harbour were giving their total of 111 a heard chase, the Sydney side at 3-78.
ACT Yellow were in an uncertain position against Mitchell despite rolling the Central West side for 90 in their first innings on the back of a three-wicket haul to Fraser-O’Rourke. The Canberra outfit were 3-20 off 10 overs in reply.
Parramatta were 4-84 chasing North Sydney West Shore’s 5-140, which game from a strong 63 to Blake Phillips. Blacktown were 9-116 chasing Wagga Wagga’s 138. Shoalhaven had Lachlan 8-38 chasing 180 and Blacktown Black were 4-89 chasing South Coast’s 110.
