The Mitchell outfit, which includes Bathurst’s Jacob Lamb, Riley Hoad, Blade Burke, Ruben Newton, Liam Deegan and Mac Hutchings, went down to ACT Yellow on the opening day before losing their Twenty20 clash in a close game with Penrith.
On the rain-interrupted opening day of the carnival at Jack Brabham Park, the Mitchell outfit was outclassed in a four-wicket defeat by ACT.
Mitchell was dismissed for 90 runs in the space of 40.5 overs and while rallying in the field to send ACT’s top five batsmen on their way for single figures, its rivals then settled.
ACT scored the winning runs on the final ball of the 38th over.
Still, there were some bright moments for the defeated Mitchell outfit.

Hutchings top scored for Mitchell with an unbeaten 17 after coming in at number 10, while Lamb was the pick of the bowlers as he took 3-13 off eight overs, four of which were maidens.
Lamb also had a hand in running out one of the ACT openers.
Mitchell had a much closer contest against Penrith in Tuesday’s Twenty20 contest when they got within 15 runs of the target.
The hosts won the toss and sent Penrith in to bat. It looked like a great choice for Mitchell who quickly had Penrith in trouble at 2-10, with Burke producing a run out.
A middle order rescue from Penrith helped to take their side to 9-115 at the conclusion of their 20 overs.
Lamb picked up figures of 1-31.
An early wicket for Penrith put Mitchell on the back foot and Hutchings (8) couldn’t match his efforts from the previous day.
Unbeaten knocks from Dan Hunter (28) and Deegan (26) helped Mitchell stay within reach of victory.
A big-hitting Deegan also hit the sole Mitchell six of the innings.
Lamb’s 13 also helped Mitchell reach triple figures but they couldn’t catch the target, ending their 20 overs at 5-100.
