Beware of scams
A report has been received of an overseas lottery scam.
“A man has lost $38,000 after he transferred two lots of money to accounts in the USA,” officers said.
Officers have urged the community to be vigilant and if they suspect it might be a scam not to take part or provide any personal details.
“No matter how convincing the scammers are, they are only going to fleece you of your life savings,” they said.
Mobile phone stolen
A mobile phone has been stolen from a unit in Rocket Street.
“About 4.30pm on Sunday, a young woman knocked on the door and asked for a drink of water,” officers said.
“As the resident went to get her a drink, the phone has been snatched and she has run off.”
Stolen keys
A set of keys have been stolen from the glove box of a vehicle which was parked in Howick Street.
Officer said the theft occurred sometime after 6.30pm on Friday and 3am the following morning.
Stay alert
Chifley Police District officer have urged the community to take precautionary security measures before going away on holidays, such as locking and securing sheds and garages.
“Lock all windows and doors and get a friend or neighbour to keep a watch on your property, report any suspicious activity to your police,” officers said.
