Next month, PETstock stores around Australia will participate in the fifth National Pet Adoption Day (NPAD), which aims to find loving homes for more animals.
Bathurst PETstock manager Lauren Brooker said that offering a platform for adoption of rescue animals ensures that people can get new pets while saving dogs and cats from euthanasia.
On Pet Adoption Day, coming up on February 9, PETstock stores will have a mix of cats, kittens, dogs and puppies available to view.
In an Australian first, all breed labels will be removed from pets listed on petrescue.com.au in the week leading up to NPAD, to ensure as many loving pets of all types find the homes they deserve without people being influenced by breed.
Ms Brooker said people who come into the store can fill out an application to help match them to the ideal animal on the day or within a couple of days.
“We put a lot of effort into matching animals based on their personalities,” she said.
“It's important to be honest on your application. It’s not going to affect your application in a bad way, it’s just to make the most appropriate match.”
