Children of all ages were getting their creative minds ticking during the summer school holidays at a two-day drama workshop at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) on Monday and Tuesday.

They tried on costumes, invented characters and created their own show across the two days, before performing their work for parents on the Tuesday afternoon.
The children were instructed by Nel Kentish and Alex Vidler, two experienced drama tutors who both have a passion for making theatre with young people.
Ms Kentish, who is a director at Beloved Monsters, said it’s great to see kids being creative and having fun during the school holidays.

“The children picked a costume to wear, then we talked about what kind of character they could be from the one they picked,” she said.
“Then we made a skit for those characters.
“Isabelle [Ortiger] played Wendy, who hosted a news segment. The skits would play out a newsreel and she would cut over to each skit when it was their turn.”
The two day-drama workshop proved popular with children, with 23 attending on Tuesday, the workshop run through both BMEC and Beloved Monsters.
Ms Kentish said the two days have been great fun for all participating children.
“We’ve been getting kids to be creative, have fun, explore new ideas and meet new people,” she said.
“It’s great to see the kids having so much fun and looking so happy and wacky.”
