HE had to wait nine years to win it for the first time, but now Georges Plains trainer-driver Bernie Hewitt has back-to-back victories in a race very close to his heart.

On Sunday at the Goulburn Paceway, Hewitt drove Lets Katchmeifucan to victory in the Tom and Angela Hewitt Memorial (2,240 metres), a feature which honours his parents.
It emulated the success Hewitt found 12 months earlier with Royal Story, his first in the memorial which was first staged in 2010.
Just as Hewitt said “I’ll remember this one, there’s no risk about that” after breaking the drought, Sunday’s success was an emotional victory too.

Plenty of members of the Hewitt family – Bernie is one of four children – were track side to cheer him home and posed with him in the victors’ photo afterwards.
Previously a member of Yanco trainer David Eurell’s team, Lets Katchmeifucan ($11) had one win from his five prior starts since making his debut for Hewitt in December.
The five-year-old copped a tricky barrier 11 draw and settled near the rear, sitting one out and five back with a lap to travel.
Hewitt made a three-wide move down the back and took the lead soon after turning for home, the driver raising his whip in triumph.
The winning margin of 4.7m over $2.20 favourite Prestonpans (Anthony Butt) was the same as Hewitt’s 2018 triumph.
