The barrier draw for the Group 1 feature was conducted on Tuesday morning, with Frisby’s stable star the sixth to be allocated a gate. It was number 10.
Still, Our Uncle Sam has impressed from tricky draws this season. Last Saturday night he placed third in the Group 2 Shepparton Cup after going from the widest gate in the seven-horse contest.
He will also follow out New Zealand raider Thefixer, the winner of the 2018 New Zealand Trotting Cup.
It meant when markets for the feature – the last big race before the Hunter Cup – opened, Our Uncle Sam was third in the line of betting at $7. Cruz Bromac held $2.80 favouritism.
Shirley Turnbull Memorial winner, Brad Hewitt’s Our Triple Play, fared better in the draw. The five-year-old Shadow Play gelding is set to go from barrier two.
