A VEHICLE from an iconic crash on Mount Panorama has just joined the National Motor Racing Museum’s permanent collection.

It was during qualifying for the 2015 Bathurst 1000 that defending champ Chaz Mostert became a passenger in his Ford Falcon after it clipped a safety barrier at the top of Mount Panorama and ricocheted down the hill.
The crash saw Mostert break his leg and wrist, several officials injured and the car totalled.

Mostert sat out the remainder of the season due to his injuries and was given a different car to race in the following year.
National Motor Racing Museum manager Brad Owen said that if a damaged Supercar can’t be repaired, it is simply scrapped, so it was rare for the team to hang on to Mostert’s car and later donate it to the museum.
“It’s a really important car. It is such a memorable moment from the recent history,” he said.
The car has only been on display at the museum for a short time, but is already proving to be a popular addition.
Mr Owen said that even people who weren’t very familiar with Supercars knew of the crash that caused the damage.
“It’s been amazingly popular and we had an incredible response online,” he said.
Mostert’s Falcon is not the only car to have been recently added to the museum’s display.
In late 2018, the 1998 Ford EL Falcon driven by Alan Jones was put on display after it was loaned to the museum by the current owner.
