It comes as a recent study by TAFE NSW forecasts employment growth in the health, community services and construction industries in the Central West over the next two years.
TAFE regional general manager Kate Baxter said the study predicted growth in full-time employment opportunities as a result of a skills shortage, ageing population and large-scale investments in the region.
“The Bathurst and Central West region is experiencing a shortage of local skilled workers in a number of areas, including aged and disabled care, pre-primary school teaching and childcare and construction,” Ms Baxter said.
“Our population is ageing and with the extension and construction of new transport corridors, and the construction and development of a number of new health care and childcare facilities, this will continue to generate increased demand for skilled workers.”
A new childcare centre in Bathurst’s west is due to open soon at the redeveloped Westpoint Shopping Centre, while another childcare centre is set to be constructed at the Gateway development by the Great Western Highway at Kelso.
Opal Aged Care, meanwhile, is building a new $35 million complex by the Macquarie River in Stanley Street, near Bathurst Hospital, that is due to open by March or April.
Bathurst TAFE is inviting locals to explore course and career options by attending InfoFest events from Monday to Friday this week or attending online information sessions at www.tafensw.edu.au.
Bathurst InfoFest activities will include campus tours; career advice; sport, fitness and outdoor recreation information session/demonstration this Tuesday, January 22 from 2-3pm; a barbecue lunch this Wednesday, January 23 from noon-2pm; and early childhood education and care information session/demonstration this Wednesday, January 23 from 10am-3pm).
