Manny Mac’s Monday couldn’t be any better, as the two-year-old black bitch stormed home to a comfortable win in the first Julie Healey Memorial at Kennerson Park.
Jumping from the wide eight box, Manny Mac ($8.50) led from start to finish, winning by 7.75 margins ahead of Dana Gem ($8.70), in second, and Issac’s Lad ($10.70), in third.
Manny Mac’s trainer, Aaron Williams, who is based in Goulburn, decided to bring the bitch to Bathurst because he liked the look of the Julie Healey Memorial.
“I trialled her and another one last week in Bathurst and that’s when I saw the heats advised, so I thought it would be suitable for her,” he said.
“There are some smart dogs in the other heats, so we’ll have to wait and see how they go. The box draw is very important too.”
It was Manny Mac’s first start since November 23, 2018, at Richmond.
She’s had a spell after sustaining an injury.
“She busted her fibula about nine weeks, so it was her first start back,” Williams said.
“She’s been good, but has been unlucky previously.”
The top two winners of the Julie Healey Memorial heats qualified for the final, to be contested on January 28, the winner receiving $2000.
The qualifiers are: Manny Mac, Dana Gem, Irinka Lloyd, Proper Charlie, Monkey Wrench, I’m Ballows, Milady Hope and Isla Delilah.
The Orange Cup will also be contested at the same meeting, the field decided from qualifying heats on January 21.
