In recent weeks, Bathurst Regional Council added lines to both sides of Keppel Street between William and George streets.
Council also re-painted the lines that run alongside Machattie Park on George Street, a sure sign they are here to stay after they kicked off Bathurst’s lined parking trial in November, 2014.
Councillor Warren Aubin said more lines would help to reduce the likelihood of spots being lost to bad parking.
“The lines are guides that I think are fantastic and I would like to see them rolled out right across the CBD,” he said.
“The majority of those cars that do park on that block (George Street) do park the right way.”
In the past, Bathurst residents have criticised the addition of lined parking.
They have said it was unnecessary, that people still parked poorly with the lines and that they ruined the heritage streetscape of the CBD.
Cr Aubin, who is also a member of council’s traffic committee, said lined parking was used in a number of other regional cities and there was no reason why Bathurst had to be any different.
“Everywhere I go … they’ve all got lines on the roads right across the CBD and the parks are almost all good,” he said.
He planned to keep pushing council to create more lined parking and expected he would be successful in that area.
“The engineering department and the traffic committee will strike up some sort of deal and get it rolled out further,” Cr Aubin said.
