The weekend is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate what we love about our city and our nation at the many celebrations and events taking place.
Living Legends
NOMINATIONS have opened for the 2019 Living Legends program.
The Legends are announced annually on Proclamation Day.
Living Legends recognises the achievements of individuals and the way they have contributed positively to the community.
More than 220 deserving residents have been honoured with the title since the program began as a bicentenary project in 2015.
If you know someone who you think fits the Living Legends criteria, you have until March 15 to nominate. Information is available at Your Say Bathurst.
Howards Bridge
COUNCIL is continuing to work towards a solution to provide temporary access to residents on the Bridle Track affected by the damage to Howards Bridge on January 11.
We are seeking disaster funding, and are in the process of reviewing quotes for a temporary crossing of Winburndale Rivulet.
We are hoping to have a decision made in the coming days as to how we will provide temporary access as quickly as possible.
We appreciate the difficulties the closure of the crossing is causing for residents and others who use the route and are keen to see a solution in place soon.
A new bridge will need to be constructed but this will take time and significant funds.
- Mayor Graeme Hanger
Learn new skills and enjoy some new opportunities
THE Central West has a shortage of skilled workers in a number of areas, including aged and disabled care, pre-primary school teaching and childcare and construction.
Our population is ageing and with the extension and construction of new transport corridors, and the construction and development of a number of new healthcare and childcare facilities, this will continue to generate increased demand for skilled workers.
TAFE NSW offers a range of qualifications across industry growth areas, including nursing, aged and disabled care, community services, early childhood education, building, carpentry and bricklaying.
With more than 1200 face-to-face and online courses available for 2019, and with current and future job prospects for Bathurst and the Central West looking bright, I encourage the community to visit TAFE NSW to find out how you can increase your skills or learn new ones to pursue employment opportunities.
TAFE NSW InfoFest, featuring course and career information, is being held at Bathurst TAFE until Friday. Alternatively, visit www.tafensw.edu.au.
Nurses needed
ARE you looking for a rewarding, versatile career? Enrolled nurses help provide clinical care and emotional support for patients.
As an enrolled nurse, you would have opportunities for ongoing education, fulfilling work and the chance to work across a range of clinical and community environments.
The NSW Government is offering scholarships right across the health sector, particularly nursing. The scholarships include a position in the Diploma of Nursing program and employment as an enrolled nurse in a NSW Health facility (following successful completion of the Diploma and standard recruitment and registration processes).

Voucher help
ACTIVE and Creative Kids vouchers are still available. Claim a $100 voucher for school-enrolled children thanks to the NSW Government’s new Active Kids and Creative Kids programs.
Through the programs, parents, carers and guardians across NSW will be able to claim a $100 voucher to put towards the registration and participation costs of sporting or creative recreation activities for their kids.
With temperatures still soaring into the mid 30s and beyond this summer, it’s never been a better time to jump in the pool and learn to swim.
Active Kids vouchers can be used towards swimming lessons at Bathurst Aquatic Centre and Cityfit Fitness Club.
