She entered the world with the help of, not a midwife, but her own mother.
Kylee Connell was 39 weeks pregnant with her third child on January 24, expecting that she still had a week or so to go.
She spent the day at her Raglan home, having what she described as “little niggly contractions”, before deciding late into the night that it was time to go to hospital.
“Then we left here at about 1.15am to go the hospital and by time we got to the roundabout near Harvey Norman she was here,” Mrs Connell said.
She said she had felt the head crowning, prompting her to reach down and deliver the baby herself.
Her husband, Adam, didn’t stop the car at all and the couple continued on to Bathurst Base Hospital, calling staff to let them know that the baby had come.

Staff from maternity were waiting in the hospital car park when the family arrived.
“They just fixed her up and got me out of the car and took me up to do what they normally do,” Mrs Connell said.
The couple named their baby Lexie Jannelle Connell, and she is a sister for Logan and Darcey.

While this was the first time Mrs Connell had delivered her own baby, there had been a close call before.
“My [first] daughter was born pretty fast too. We got to the hospital about 15 minutes before she was born,” she said.
While giving birth in the car was a surprise, Mrs Connell was able to stay relatively calm thanks to her husband.
“He was very, very supportive and didn't show he was nervous at all,” she said.
The couple wanted to thank the hospital staff, particularly those from the maternity ward, for their help.
Mr and Mrs Connell were able to take Lexie home on January 25, the same day she was born, and the little girl is settling into life at home with her siblings, who are as besotted as their parents.
The birthing experience hasn’t scarred the couple, who said they might have a fourth child someday.
